| Nestled along the banks of the Shawangunk Kill in the shadow of the beautiful Shawangunk Ridge, the Pine Bush area was first settled by Dutch, German, Scottish and Irish farmers as early as 1740. Lively hamlets with inns, taverns, mills, schools, distilleries, stores, churches and homes grew up among the farms. By the early 19th century, the area around Pine Bush had come to be known as the Butter Capital of the World.
Today, those same hamlets and their rich agricultural heritage live on, in dairies, horse farms and vineyards thyat share the breath-taking countryside.
