| The Town of Monroe is located in southern Orange County in the State of New York. The population as of the 2010 census was 39,912 making it the largest population of any town in Orange County. The town is named after President James Monroe.
The Town of Monroe contains three villages: Monroe and Kiryas Joel, as well as the majority of Harriman, which it shares with the Town of Woodbury. The town is also home to the original Velveeta Cheese factory, located in the Village of Monroe. It stands as a historic landmark as the small building that started the now highly popular "cheese food."
